Under the direction of Education Coordinator Kate Messenger, The Limelight Theatre’s KidzfACTory has been working with local author Mary Jane Hayes to adapt and stage her children’s book entitled Emma’s House of Sound.
Based on a true story, the play is a heart warming tale of a young deaf girl who had to attend a mainstream school in the 1950s. In addition to dealing with the everyday problems school children face such as bullies and bratty classmates, Emma must read lips, and try to communicate with her peers. Emma’s House of Sound teaches audiences that friendship can be found in unexpected places, and acceptance and compassion transcend all.
A cast of 26 students and adults are working with Messenger to produce this brand new show which will debut May 24 at 7:30 and run thru May 26. Don’t miss your chance to see this never before produced locally written play! Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 904-825-1164. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
Emma's House of Sound is partially funded by a St. Johns Cultural Council State of the Arts Grant.
