Limelight Studio Live takes the Black Box Theatre

05.20.2009

Join us at Limelight Theatre Sunday night, May 31, for the first ever Limelight Studio Live!  Coordinated by local actor and musician Stephen Pigman, Limelight Studio Live is a chance for local bands to take the Limelight stage and show their stuff.  Only $10 at the door and $5 in advance, patrons 21 and over will enter Limelight’s Black Box Studio Theatre and listen and dance to the best live local music St.Augustine has to offer.

Limelight Studio Live begins at 7:30 pm with a set featuring the very talented local acoustic player and songwriter Michael Howard with Woody Pernell accompanying him on percussion.

The second band, Longfellow Street, takes the stage at 8:15.  Longfellow Street is a five-piece country rock band playing original music. Guitar-driven with nods to classic country and psychedelic hard rock, the music often strays into the realm of jazz and blues, arriving at an opportunity to showcase the vocal talents and warm stage presence of singer/songwriter Mallory McKendry. Writer and sometime singer Trey Andrews is most likely found on bass, handing the four strings over to Mallory when he picks up a guitar. Shawn Lightfoot plays rhythm guitar and various instruments or smoothly leads the band, singing his own swing-pop-with-an-edge arrangements. Arvid Smith's creative and adventurous guitar playing - played on a creative and adventurous collection of guitars -adds a continuously varied style and substance to a rich mix, topped off and held down by Cody Walker Jr's talent for organic and rock-solid drumming.  Playing music together, the five have found a common ground on which their differences can stand and shine.

Amy Hendrickson and the Prime Directive’s set begins at 9:30.  The members of the band have all been a part of other bands contributing to St.Augustine's rich and diverse musical community.  Amy Hendrickson, vocalist/singer-songwriter, fronts the band while playing acoustic guitar and displays her versatile vocal abilities ranging from Ani DiFranco and Peggy Lee. The band includes Steve Hawkes on drums. Although has only spent 5 years behind the drums, he sounds like a veteran.  Stephen Pigman is on bass and vocals. Stephen has been a local musician in the area for 15 years and has also been seen on stage Limelight in 11 different shows.  Chris Kearns plays saxophone and melodica.  Chris has been a local musician for over 20 years in Saint Augustine and has recently played at House Of Blues, and many festivals.

The Limelight Theatre is located at 11 Old Mission Avenue in uptown St. Augustine.  The Box Office is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am – 4pm.  For more information, call 904-825-1164.  Advance tickets are available by calling 307-5401.
