Limelight Theatre was founded in 1992 with a simple but powerful belief: great storytelling belongs at the heart of the community. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a year-round nonprofit theatre with its own home, producing a full season of plays and musicals alongside education, film, and special programming. Over more than three decades, Limelight has earned a reputation for ambitious work, local talent, and a deep commitment to artistic excellence.
From early productions to today’s multi-stage operations, Limelight’s story is one of persistence, collaboration, and love for the craft. Generations of artists, volunteers, and audiences have helped shape a theatre that values both creative risk and emotional connection—building not just a season-by-season lineup, but a lasting cultural institution.

ABOUT THE
Community Impact
Community theatre matters because it is more than entertainment—it is a living conversation about who we are. On our stage, stories of love, resilience, justice, and joy invite us to see ourselves and each other in new ways. For young people who may not thrive on a sports field, our classes and camps offer an equally vital outlet to shine. For families, Limelight is a gathering place. For our city, it is a cultural cornerstone that enriches the lives of residents and attracts visitors from across the region.
We’ve been honored to be named Best Theatre in Northeast Florida by Broadway World for two years in a row, and every accolade is a reflection of something deeper: the way our theatre brings people together.
Looking ahead, Limelight Theatre is focused on growth with purpose. We aim to deepen our artistic impact, expand access to high-quality theatre education, and continue elevating local and regional talent. Innovation—whether in storytelling, production, or community engagement—will remain central as we evolve to meet new audiences and new ideas.
Our future is inseparable from the people we serve. By investing in collaboration, inclusion, and bold creative work, Limelight seeks not only to sustain its legacy, but to strengthen its role as a vital cultural hub.
