WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please prepare a 32-bar cut of a musical theatre song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring your sheet music with clear, legible markings for the accompanist.
Some roles may require movement and scene work during callbacks, so please dress comfortably and be prepared to move.
ROLES AVAILABLE:
Maria Rainer (Female/Soprano)
A young postulant full of warmth, spirit, and determination. Requires strong vocals, emotional range, and confident stage presence.
Captain Georg von Trapp (Male/Baritone)
A disciplined naval officer and widowed father who softens over the course of the show. Strong acting ability and authoritative presence required.
Mother Abbess (Female/Mezzo-Soprano)
The wise and compassionate leader of the abbey. Requires a powerful, sustained vocal presence (sings “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”).
Liesl von Trapp (Female/Soprano)
The eldest von Trapp child, on the cusp of adulthood. Requires strong vocals and emotional maturity (sings “Sixteen Going on Seventeen”).
Rolf Gruber (Male/Tenor)
A delivery boy and Liesl’s love interest. Requires strong acting ability and a dramatic arc.
Max Detweiler (Male/Baritone/Tenor)
A charming, witty music agent and family friend. Strong comedic timing and character work required.
Elsa Schraeder (Female/Mezzo-Soprano)
A sophisticated baroness engaged to the Captain. Requires elegance, vocal control, and strong acting skills.
Sister Berthe (Female/Mezzo-Soprano)
The outspoken nun with a sharp sense of humor (sings “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?”).
Sister Margaretta (Female/Soprano)
A gentle, kind nun who supports Maria. Requires strong ensemble singing.
Sister Sophia (Female/Alto)
A reserved and observant nun with dry wit.
The von Trapp Children:
Friedrich (Male) – Serious and responsible
Louisa (Female) – Rebellious and spirited
Kurt (Male) – Gentle and poetic
Brigitta (Female) – Curious and outspoken
Marta (Female) – Sweet and excitable
Gretl (Female) – Youngest and adorable
Children must be strong singers, comfortable with harmony, and confident onstage.
Ensemble / Featured Roles:
Includes nuns, party guests, townspeople, and festival performers. Strong singers and movers encouraged.
