St. Augustine, Fla., March 19, 2026 — Limelight Theatre is proud to present Godspell, the beloved musical by Stephen Schwartz, playing on the Mainstage March 26 through April 19, 2026 at the theatre on Old Mission Avenue. Filled with uplifting music, humor, and heart, Godspell brings the timeless messages of kindness, compassion, and community to life in a vibrant theatrical experience.
The production is directed by Missy Schmotzer, a respected theatre artist and educator whose passion for collaborative storytelling and musical theatre shines throughout this joyful staging. Under Schmotzer’s direction, the production celebrates the spirit of ensemble performance while highlighting the powerful themes of friendship, resilience, and connection that have made Godspell a favorite for generations of audiences.
Originally conceived and directed by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell transforms parables into an energetic blend of music, storytelling, and playful theatricality. Featuring a lively score that includes beloved songs such as “Day by Day,” the musical invites audiences to reflect on compassion, forgiveness, and the power of community.
“This production is filled with joy, heart, and the kind of storytelling that reminds us of our shared humanity,” said Sherrie Provence, executive director of Limelight Theatre. “Godspell is a celebration of connection and kindness, and it’s a beautiful example of how theatre can bring people together through music, laughter, and meaningful stories.”
